Smoke coming from blaze in downtown São Paulo, Brazil

Firefighters battled a major blaze in downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil, late Sunday. The fire began in a commercial building on Barao de Duprat Road number 95, near Travessa do Orfanato, at about 9 p.m. July 10, according to fire officials. A video shared by Twitter user Guilherme Fernando shows a thick column of black smoke rising from the city’s skyline. By 10:30 p.m., the fire department reported that multiple vehicles and some 85 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze. The fire was extinguished shortly after 1 a.m. July 11. Shortly before 4 a.m. the fire department reported that two firefighters sustained second-degree burns. No other victims were reported. There was no information on the cause of the fire.
