A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed while walking with a baby in a stroller on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Wednesday night. New York City Police officers responded at about 8:23 p.m. to a report of a shooting across from 164 E. 95th Street, just blocks from Gracie Mansion, the official residence of Mayor Eric Adams. A woman was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said during a press conference Wednesday night. EMS transported the victim to Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m. Sewell said the victim was pushing an approximately 3-month-old baby in a stroller when an unknown person shot her at very close range. The suspect is male and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants, Sewell said. These are real stories, real lives of when a mother’s pushing a baby carriage down the block, or an individual, a woman is pushing a baby carriage down the block and is shot at point-blank range, it shows just how this national problem is impacting families, Adams said at the press conference. As of early Thursday the victim’s identity had not been released, pending notification of family, and no arrests had been made, according to police. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
