An Alabama teenager was arrested Sunday for allegedly pushing a young girl into a fire, causing burns to both the child and her mother, who rescued her, police said.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident on Claremont Drive in unincorporated Foley, Ala., at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputies found the 6-year-old girl and her mother at a neighbor’s house across the street, and both were transported to a hospital in stable condition for treatment of significant burns.
The sheriff’s office said a 17-year-old boy who lived at the home where the incident occurred intentionally pushed the girl into the fire. The girl’s mother sustained burns when rescuing her daughter.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is in the early stages and did not release the names of the juvenile suspect, or the victims.
It is unclear what led to this unfortunate incident, and our investigators are actively following leads to determine exactly what occurred, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder and assault in the second degree.
