Authorities in Maine believe two separate shootings Tuesday are connected, and one person of interest is in custody, police said.
According to Maine State Police, four people were found dead in a home on Augusta Road in Bowdoin Tuesday morning. Then, at around 10:30 a.m., three people were shot while driving southbound on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth, about 25 miles away.
Videos shared by Twitter user @Brian123291 show law enforcement response on I-295 Tuesday.
“A car window was broken or shot out on the side of the highway,” they tweeted alongside a video.
The Yarmouth Police Department and Yarmouth Fire Rescue were called to assist at the second shooting scene. The injured were transported to a local hospital, according to a statement from the Yarmouth Police Department.
One person of interest was taken into custody near Exit 15 and one firearm was recovered, police said. There was a heavy police response as authorities initially searched to determine whether any other suspects had fled the scene.
The Maine Department of Transportation announced shortly before 5 p.m. that southbound I-295 had reopened to traffic, except for the Exit 15 ramp, where the investigation was ongoing.
State police believe both shootings are connected, and that there is no further threat to the public.
