Warships Nearly Miss Hitting One Another In San Diego Bay

The U.S. Navy said it was investigating after two ships nearly collided in San Diego Bay in California Tuesday morning. A video of the near-miss was shared by the San Diego Web Cam on Twitter, dubbed “Warship Chicken.” It shows the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen and the much larger dock-landing ship USS Harpers Ferry headed straight for each other. The Momsen makes a left turn, but Harpers Ferry is turning in the same direction. The Momsen veers harder to the left while Harpers Ferry begins turning, slowly, away. The ships avoid a collision and safely pass each other. Harpers Ferrys home port is in San Diego, while the Momsen is based near Seattle, Wash.
