A fire broke out in the basement under Tiffany & Cos Landmark store in New York City on Thursday, but did not spread to the store, officials said.
The fire began in an electrical transformer in a utility vault under the iconic Tiffany flagship store at Fifth Avenue at 57th Street at around 9:40 a.m., and was under control by noon, per reports.
Videos shared by Twitter user @JayneZirkle show first responders arriving at the scene as gray smoke billows from the building at ground level.
Two people sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. Dozens more were evacuated as a precaution, officials said.
Utility Con Edison also responded to the scene, and is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Tiffany & Co. Landmark store reopened to the public in April after being closed for three years for a major renovation.
