A door-to-door salesman in Texas was called racial slurs and shot at by a resident, and was miraculously saved when the bullet was stopped by his tablet.
The Fort Worth Police Department said officers responded Thursday to the 3100 block of Purington Avenue in east Fort Worth after a report of a shooting. The victim told police that he works for a local energy company, and was going door-to-door in the residential neighborhood when the shooting occurred.
Officers at the scene determined nobody was inside the residence when they arrived. Police on Monday said detectives are still investigating, and will be writing a warrant on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police did not name the suspect or the victim.
He just came out and just straight pointed the barrel at me and then shot me and told me to ‘get away from here, n**, the victim, who works for Reliant Energy, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. Im lucky it didnt hit me, it hit the tablet.”
The victim said he’s been working in sales for Reliant for ten years.
“This is the one thing I always fear — getting shot at the door — and today it happened, he told the outlet. I got two daughters. I couldve been in the hospital dead now.
“Were in the process of learning more, but thankfully the sales agent was not harmed, Reliant said in a statement. The safety and security of sales agents is our top priority, and we are working with local law enforcement on next steps.
