A police officer in Texas thought he was getting pranked for April Fool’s Day on Monday when he rounded up both a loose goat and a loose peacock in separate incidents.
Body-worn and dashboard camera videos shared by the Irving Police Department on Wednesday show Officer Turner chasing a goat through a shopping center parking lot, then a short time later, transporting an injured peacock to safety.
The goat had fallen off a trailer and ran loose along Highway 183. The highway was temporarily shut down, and Turner can be seen trying to lure the goat with what appears to be french fries. The food didn’t work, however, and officers could be seen chasing the goat through a nearby shopping center parking lot before finally tackling it and getting a rope around it.
Just minutes later, Turner was off to a residential neighborhood where an severely injured peacock was limping free. Turner and a resident cornered the peacock near a fence and scooped it up. The peacock was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation clinic in Southlake for treatment of its leg injury.
The goat was picked up by Dallas Animal Services, which was better equipped for dealing with livestock.
Lucky for these animals, Officer Turner didn’t think twice about helping. Lucky for us, he didn’t forget to take a selfie, police wrote on Facebook. Animal or human, you can run, but you can’t hide from our officers and helpful community.
