A Florida mayor on vacation in the Keys with her family when they fished up more than $1 million worth of cocaine last month, officials said.
A photo shared by U.S. Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar shows 70 pounds of cocaine packaged in bricks with a butterfly graphic. According to the agency, the drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $1.1 million dollars.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and her family were in Marathon for her sons birthday when they went out fishing on July 23, per reports. When they spotted debris in the water, Castor, a former police chief, soon realized what it was.
They pulled the package into the boat and alerted local law enforcement. The cocaine was later turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
