The Irvine Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying a single suspected thief allegedly responsible for stealing an estimated $39,000 worth of merchandise from Target stores across Southern California.
The suspect originally hit the Irvine Police Department’s radar in October, and they asked for the public’s help identifying him. Since then, the suspect has continued his crime spree.
The estimated loss to Target is $39,000, the police department said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. In the most recent cases, the suspect has run out of stores with iPads.
Surveillance video shared by the police department — set to the tune of the Unsolved Mysteries theme song — shows the suspect, who appears to be a white male in a gray hoodie, entering a Target store. He can be seen getting the attention of an employee, then grabbing a small box out of the employee’s hand and bolting out of the store with it.
The box appears to be an iPad or other digital tablet.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to email email mricci@cityofirvine or submit an anonymous tip.
