Three security guards outside a Florida gentlemens club bravely stopped a man armed with a gun and wearing a devil mask from entering the venue, police said.
Surveillance video shared by the Tampa Police Department shows a man walking up to the door at Mons Venus on North Dale Mabry Highway at around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 19. He is initially obscured because he is holding a flashlight that points toward the camera.
Once at the door, a security guard spots the firearm in the suspects right hand, and tries to disarm him. As they struggle, the gun is knocked out of the suspects hand. They continue fighting, and the security guard takes possession of the gun.
Two additional security guards then assist the first in detaining the suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Michael Rudman, until police arrived. According to police, Rudman was “wearing a red and black devil mask with the words “KILL” and “DARKK ONE” written on his arms.”
Police said one round from the suspects gun struck the front door during the struggle, and one of the security guards sustained minor injuries.
In addition to the loaded firearm, police said they discovered two fully loaded magazines in Rudmans pocket, and additional ammunition, knives, and firearm holsters in his truck.
“There is no question that the security guards who disarmed this suspect saved dozens of lives through their heroic acts, and I am thankful that our officers were able to take this individual into custody before he had the chance to carry out whatever he had planned,” Interim Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement.
Rudman was booked into Falkenburg Road Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and having a firearm while under a risk protection order. His motives are still under investigation, police said.
