A shooting in Philadelphia Tuesday night that left two people dead and five others injured is likely drug related, police said.
The shootings took place at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 6th Street and Allegheny Avenue in North Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police found four male victims with gunshot wounds nearby, on the 3200 block of Fairhill Street. They were all transported to Temple University Hospital, where two of them were pronounced dead, police said.
Three additional male victims injured in the shooting walked into different hospitals. One went to Temple Hospital, another went to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, and the third went to Episcopal Hospital, police said.
According to police, more than 70 shots were fired in the shooting. Five guns and drugs were recovered at the scene.
This is a block that has had some narcotic activity, Interim Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford said at a press briefing. This isn’t a block that we aren’t familiar with. With that being said, I would say it’s probably something connected to a narcotics trade but I’m not going to say that with 100% certainty.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
