Australian police responded to another stabbing attack on Monday, just two days after a man killed six people and injured several others in a stabbing attack at the Westfield Bondi shopping mall in Sydney.
New South Wales Police said officers were responding to reports of a stabbing at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, a suburb of Sydney, shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.
Police did not specify how many victims were injured, but said their injuries were non-life-threatening. The victims were being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to a hospital.
Officers arrested a male and he is assisting police with inquiries, police said.
According to local media, the church’s leader was stabbed in the middle of the service, which was being livestreamed online, along with multiple worshippers.
The incident comes after Joel Cauchi, 40, killed six people injured several others, including an infant, inside the busy Westfield Bondi shopping mall Saturday. Cauchi was confronted by a lone officer, Inspector Amy Scott, who shot and killed him. Police said Monday they were still investigating the assailant’s motive, including why he targeted women.
