Rescued Vultures Turned Out To Be Passing Out Drunk, Not Dying

A pair of vultures rescued in Connecticut earlier this month weren’t sick or injured, it turned out they were just too drunk to fly,
On April 7, rescuers from A Place Called Hope, a rehab facility for birds of prey, responded to assist Watertown Animal Control with the rescue of two vultures that were having difficulty standing and balancing, and kept passing out, or in our eyes, actively dying, the facility said.
We ran every test and in the end, they were too drunk to fly, A Place Called Hope wrote on Facebook alongside photos of the drunken birds. We were all very confused until the details of their story fell into place which eventually confirmed our suspicions after ruling everything else out.
Those details included that the vultures were found dumpster diving.
These two, the dynamic duo… celebrated a day early for the eclipse by dumpster diving and getting themselves into something that was fermented enough to cause severe intoxication, the rescue said.
The drunken vultures were not easy patients, the rescue said, but only needed fluids and to be tucked in overnight… and fed a BIG breakfast the next day.
The vultures were released on April 9 and immediately joined up with their colony, said the rescue, which shared a video of the release.
A Place Called Hope is now warning people to close dumpster lids so that discarded fruits don’t end up intoxicating wildlife.
Birds don’t let other birds fly drunk… this dynamic duo had each other’s backs, but I don’t know if any lessons were learned on their end, the rescue wrote.
