The Quaker Oats Company is recalling certain granola bars and cereals due to the risk of salmonella contamination, according to a company announcement shared by the Food and Drug Administration Friday.
The recalled products include dozens of varieties and variety packs of Quaker Chewy Bars, Quaker Big Chewy Bars, Quaker Chewy Bars Minis, Quaker Chewy Dipps and Quaker Chewy Mini Dipps. Recalled granola cereals include Puffed Granola, Simply Granola and Protein Granola varieties.
Snack boxes containing recalled products, such as Quaker Chocolatey Favorites Snack Mix, Quaker On The Go Snack Mix, and Frito-Lay Snacks Variety Pack, were also recalled.
The recalled products were sold throughout the 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan.
Salmonella is a potentially deadly bacterium, according to the FDA. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and headache. While most healthy people recover from salmonella infection without treatment, it can be potentially fatal for young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Quaker said it has received no confirmed reports of illness related to the products covered by this recall.
The FDA is advising consumers to check their pantries and dispose of any recalled products. Customers can visit quakergranolarecall.com to check their list of recalled products and request reimbursement.
