Police Search For ‘Armed And Dangerous’ Former Cop Accused Of Killing Ex-Wife And Teen Girlfriend, Kidnapping Son

West Richland Police Department
Police in Washington state are searching for a former officer accused of shooting and killing his ex-wife and his 17-year-old girlfriend and abducting his 1-year-old son, who may be fleeing toward Mexico, authorities said.
Elias Huizar, 39, is “armed and considered dangerous, and is likely to commit more crimes,” according to the West Richland Police Department.
West Richland police responded to Wiley Elementary School in West Richland shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday and found teacher Amber Rodriguez, Huizar’s ex-wife, shot dead. Police initially described the shooting as an isolated incident, but when officers searched Huizar’s home later on Monday, they found his 17-year-old girlfriend, whom he reportedly impregnated when she was 15, shot dead.
Unable to find Huizar’s 1-year-old son, Roman, the Washington State Patrol issued an Amber Alert, noting that he may be fleeing toward Mexico.
Huizar was due to appear in court on Monday on charges of second-degree rape, furnishing alcohol to minors, and third-degree rape. The charges stem from an alleged attack on his girlfriend’s 16-year-old friend, who was staying the night. His girlfriend reported the incident to police, and he was arrested on Feb. 3.
His bail was set at $200,000, and he was released on the condition that he doesn’t contact either of the minor girls or consume any alcohol.
He was also due to appear in court next month for a hearing on an order of protection requested by Rodriguez.
Huizar and Rodriguez, who share two children, split in 2020. Huizar requested the order of protection in fear for her and her children’s safety, claiming he had been harassing her.
Huizar served as a police officer with the Yakima Police Department from 2013 to 2022, and was assigned as a school resource officer at Washington Middle School.
Huizar is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen driving a Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla.
Police are asking anyone who sees Huizar to immediately call 911.
