One man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing to teenage girls inside Grand Central Terminal in New York City on Christmas Day, authorities said.
The girls, ages 14 and 16, were visiting from South America and were eating with their parents at Tartinery in the Grand Central Dining Concourse in Manhattan shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday when they were attacked.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Steven Hutcherson of the Bronx, allegedly got into a verbal dispute with Tartinery staff after they told him he could not sit in the dining area. Hutcherson allegedly pointed out that the victims were allowed to sit there, then drew a knife and stabbed them.
Per reports, the 16-year-old was stabbed in the back, nicking her lung, while the 14-year-old was stabbed in the thigh. Both were transported to Bellevue Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Metropolitan Transit Authority Police arrived within seconds and arrested Hutcherson. He was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
Hutcherson is reportedly known to both the MTA Police and the NYPD as an emotionally disturbed individual. He was previously arrested in the Bronx in July and November for allegedly menacing people with a gun.
