A driver in Upstate New York was captured on video trying to speed around a semi-truck on a snowy road and crashing into a snow plow.
The New York State Department of Transportation shared dashboard camera video from the snow plow on Wednesday, warning drivers not to undertake such a dangerous maneuver.
The video shows the plow driving along snowy two-lane road with two pairs of headlights driving toward it. A black sedan driving in the plow’s lane can be seen speeding up trying to get ahead of the truck. At the last moment, the sedan swerves sharply to try to get back into its lane in front of the truck, and it slides on the icy slush, striking the plow.
The car’s side and rear strike the front of the plow, sending debris flying.
“Note to self: dont try to pass when roads are covered in snow and slush,” the state’s Department of Transportation wrote alongside the video on X, formerly Twitter.
Thankfully, no one was injured in this crash, the agency said.
The video took place at an unidentified location in the state’s North Country, which the agency said received more than four feet of snow this week. Western New York saw more than five feet of snow.
