Animal Control officers in Raleigh, N.C., were surprised to find the second loose iguana of 2024 this week, with the latest one being five feet long.
The weather may be warm and humid, but this is not Florida! This iguana must have gotten confused, the Raleigh Police Department wrote alongside a photo on Facebook on Wednesday.
The police department’s animal control unit captured the five-foot iguana on Tuesday night, and said it’s the second iguana sighting of the year.
Where we located it, we believe whomever had it was traveling and somehow it was released, Lt. Jason Boreno told WRAL. We do not believe that there are just iguanas running around or escaped from a particular business.
Police are asking for the public’s support in reporting any additional iguana sightings in the city. The iguana located on Tuesday was relocated to a wildlife rehabilitation facility.
