A small plane struck two vehicles when it landed on a North Carolina highway after experiencing engine problems on Thursday, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.
The single-engine Lancair 360 made an emergency landing on U.S. Route 1 in Moncure at around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.
The plane struck two SUVs as it landed, resulting in minor damage to one, but there were thankfully no injuries, the Moncure Fire Department said.
Moncure Fire Department Chief Robert Shi said in a statement Friday that the pilot reported experiencing a prop failure that led to engine failure. The plane landed on its belly because the landing gear was not deployed, he said.
According to flight activity tracker FlightAware, the plane was traveling from Lynchburg, Va., to Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
