Two police officers in New Jersey were shot on Tuesday by an unknown suspect firing a long gun from a rooftop, officials said. Part of Chancellor Avenue was blocked off Tuesday afternoon as the Newark Police Department responded to the scene in force. A video shared by Clarence Jackson shows law enforcement on the residential street, apparently trying to work out a path around the sniper to get into the building. A helicopter can be heard overhead. The injured officers were serving a warrant in the area when they were fired upon at around 2 p.m., per reports. One officer was shot in the shoulder, one was shot in the leg, and both were hospitalized, per reports. The Newark Police Department released few details immediately following the shooting, and the officers had not yet been identified Tuesday afternoon. The suspect was still not in custody Tuesday afternoon.
