Residents in a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas, had to evacuate their homes after a grenade was discovered during a home renovation in the neighborhood, police said.
The White Settlement Police Department said officers responded to the 9200 block of Lanham Street at around 4 p.m. on Sunday after a homeowner found what appeared to be a military-style hand grenade during a renovation.
A photo shared by the police department showed the grenade in what appeared to be a silverware drawer.
Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes out of an abundance of caution, police said, and the Fort Worth Fire Department Arson and Bomb investigations team was called to the scene.
Investigators determined the grenade did not contain any explosive material. The fire department kept the device, and residents were allowed to return to their properties.
