Man Trying To Escape Gunfire By Scaling Myrtle Beach Hotel Falls To His Death

A man trying to scale the exterior of an oceanfront hotel in South Carolina in order to escape gunfire on the sixth floor fell to his death early Sunday, police said.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department said officers responded to the Hotel Blue on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after a report of a disturbance on the sixth floor. According to police, several shots were fired, but nobody was injured by gunfire.
During the disturbance, as participants attempted to leave the hotel room, one man exited to the balcony and tried to climb down the back of the building, police said. Before reaching the fifth floor, the man fell to the ground.
The man, later identified as 27-year-old Jorge Orellana of Hndersonville, N.C., was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, police said. He died of his injuries shortly after 6 a.m., according to the Horry County Coroners Office.
Police said all participants in the disturbance have been identified, and the firearm was recovered. The investigation remains active.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
