The Drug Enforcement Administration announced the seizure of around 15,000 rainbow-colored fentanyl pills in New York City and one arrest. Investigators with the DEAs New York Drug Enforcement Task Force were conducting surveillance on Sep. 28 as part of an ongoing trafficking investigation when they observed Latesha Bush entering a vehicle, according to a Tuesday statement from the agency. Agents stopped the vehicle and allegedly found Bush, 48, with two black tote bags, along with a yellow LEGO container containing the pills. The agency said the seizure is the largest in the city to date. Authorities say the pills originated in Mexico, and were stamped with “M” and “30” to resemble “30 M” Oxycodone Hydrochloride 30 mg pills. The DEA said laboratory analysis of the pills is pending, but that preliminary testing indicated the presence of fentanyl. “Rainbow fentanyl is a clear and present danger, and it is here in New York City,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Frank Tarentino. “Fentanyl is already involved in more than 80% of overdose deaths in the city. If you take any drug sold on the street or through the internet, regardless of its medicinal markings or festive appearance, you risk your life,” said NYC Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan. “My office and our partners are committed to intercepting lethal fentanyl and ensuring that these rainbow-colored pills dont lead more people down a sad path of substance use and overdose death. The prosecutors office charged Bush with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first and third degrees. She was arraigned on Sep. 30 and bail was set at $25,000.
