Five children became lost in the sewers on Staten Island this week and called 911 for help, according to the New York City Fire Department.
The kids entered the sewers under Clove Lakes Park on Staten Island on March 21. In an audio recording of their 911 call shared by the New York City Fire Department, the kids tell the operator theyre unsure of their location.
“Whats the address on Staten Island?” the operator asks. The child says they dont know. “You dont know?” the operator asks, surprised.
“Yeah, were like… were stuck in the sewers,” the caller says.
“Once you went down, wheres the sewer — left, right, straight — where was it?” the operator asks. “I need you to guide me.”
The children say they went right, but couldnt say exactly how long they were walking, only that “we walked a lot.”
Dispatchers stayed on the line with the children for 30 minutes while rescuers searched for them.
“Call for help guys. They hear you,” an operator says. “You call for help.” The children can then be heard yelling together, and they were found moments later.
