Florida Teen Arrested On Beach For Gun, Cannabis Possession To Be Charged As Adult

A teenage boy was arrested on a Florida beach last week after he allegedly brandished a gun in a crowd of spring breakers and ran into the Atlantic Ocean during a standoff with law enforcement, authorities said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were patrolling New Smyrna Beach at around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday when they saw a crowd of people dispersing and heard shouts of He has a gun!
Body-worn camera video released by the sheriff’s office shows deputies with guns drawn ordering the armed teen to drop the gun, but he runs through a crowd of people and enters the water.
The boy, identified as 16-year-old Felixander Solis-Guzman drops the gun and a bag he was carrying in the water.
Several deputies cleared the beach and converged on Solis-Guzman, who, after a few minutes, complied with commands and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Deputies recovered the firearm from the water, along with the bag, which allegedly contained 20 small plastic baggies of marijuana.
Solis-Guzman charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, improper exhibition of a firearm, commission of a 2nd degree felony with a weapon, resisting a law enforcement officer, 2 counts of tampering with evidence, and sale of marijuana.
According to the sheriff’s office, in addition to those charges, Solis-Guzman was charged in connection with seven active no-bond warrants out of Orange County, including robbery with a firearm and violation of his probation. He was initially processed at the Volusia Family Resource Center before being transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
On Friday, the State Attorney for Florida’s 7th Circuit announced it was charging Solis-Guzman as an adult, and ordered his transfer to the Volusia County Jail.
This 16-year-old brought drugs and a gun to Volusia County during spring break, State Attorney R.J. Larizza said in a statement. He will now face adult charges and serious consequences for his reckless actions. We welcome spring breakers, so long as they behave themselves.
