Police and firefighters went door to door to evacuate sleeping residents of a condo building in Michigan after a fire broke out on the top floor early Sunday, city officials said.
The Farmington Hills Police and Fire departments arrived at the Country Glen Condos at 30535 Fourteen Mile Road in the early hours of March 12 to find the third floor of the three-story building engulfed in flames, according to a statement from the City of Farmington Hills.
Body-worn camera videos released by the city show officers rushing down darkened, smoke-filled hallways, banging on doors to wake residents. Officers were unable to reach the third floor, and shouted from the stairwell to anyone who may have been there.
“Your buildings on fire, you gotta get out,” an officer shouts. “If you can hear me come to my voice and the light.”
Officer can be seen directing firefighters to the locations they couldnt reach. On their way out, officers stop in a ground floor apartment to rescue a residents dog.
“The courage displayed by these police officers and firefighters highlights their professionalism and underscores the dangers they face in the line of duty,” said Police Chief Jeff King.
According to the city, all occupants were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Multiple officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
