A teenage murder suspect who escaped during transport to a Philadelphia hospital on Wednesday was captured Sunday by U.S. Marshals, authorities said.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators learned that Shane Pryor, 17, was in the Hunting Park neighborhood following his escape, and deployed surveillance teams to the area. At around 6:20 p.m. Sunday, Pryor was spotted boarding a SEPTA bus at 9th Street and Roosevelt Boulevard.
Investigators stopped the bus at 3rd Street and Roosevelt Boulevard and it was boarded by U.S. Marshals. Pryor was arrested without incident, and Marshals said a black handcuff key was found in his pocket.
Pryor escaped custody on Wednesday during transport to the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. He had been incarcerated at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Service Center since 2020. He was charged with the 2020 murder of Tanya Harris, 54, when he was just 14, and is still awaiting trial.
To bring Shane Pryor into custody 4 days after escaping, is a result of tremendous collaboration between the U.S. Marshals Service and the Philadelphia Homicide Unit, Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy Marshal, said in a statement. We thank the great citizens of Philadelphia, as well as the media, for their support and coverage during this investigation.”
The Philadelphia Police Department last week arrested Michael Diggs, 18, on suspicion of assisting Pryor’s escape from custody. He was charged with hindering apprehension, escape, use of communication facility, and criminal conspiracy, police said.
