A man driving along Interstate 95 on Philadelphia early Tuesday spotted a loose horse racing along the highway and captured a video of the animal.
Angelo Palmer captured video of the escaped horse running along I-95 near the Girard Avenue exit at around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Local news outlet WPVI reported that police were able to safely corral the horse at the Allegheny Avenue exit in the Port Richmond neighborhood after it left the highway on its own.
The Philadelphia Police Department joked about the incident on X, formerly Twitter.
Hey Philly, uh, hold your horses (so we don’t have to), the department wrote.
According to police, the horse was not believed to have escaped a trailer, but instead likely ran away from one of the city’s urban riding clubs.
Rescuers gave the horse water while waiting for its owners to come pick it up. WPVI reported that two men with a trailer came for the horse at around 6:40 a.m. One of the men was wearing a sweatshirt from the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, famous for inspiring the Netflix film Concrete Cowboy, and said he had recently purchased the horse.
When reporters asked how the horse escaped, one of the men said that somebody let him out.
