The teenage suspect in a shooting at a Colorado high school that wounded two staff on Wednesday was found dead later that night, authorities said.
The Park County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Thursday morning that the body found Wednesday night was that of Austin Lyle, 17, identified earlier as the suspect in a shooting at East High School in Denver.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said at a press conference that Lyle was under an “agreement to be patted down each day here at East High School shot and injured two staff members.” Both injured staff were transported to area hospitals.
Videos shared by Jesus Bujanda show the law enforcement response from inside the high school, where students were locked down.
The Denver Police Department responded to the scene, but Lyle was no longer there. They put out an alert for Lyle and a 2005 red Volvo XC90.
Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw later confirmed the vehicle was located on County Road 68 in Bailey, a remote area southwest of Denver. The Jefferson County Sheriff, Denver Police Department, FBI and ATF all responded to the scene, and his body was found nearby.
The cause and manner of Lyles death has not yet been determined by the Park County Coroners Office. The investigation is ongoing.
