A fire that broke out in Gatlinburg, Tenn., early Sunday, left one person dead and destroyed multiple businesses, per reports. The Gatlinburg Fire Department, along with the Pigeon Forge Fire Department and other neighboring crews were called to the fire along the Great Smoky Mountains Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. Multiple restaurants and stores were damaged or destroyed, and one business owner hired an excavator to demolish what remained of a building. A video shared by Twitter user @cartermajaa53 shows the demolition in progress Sunday night, as fire crews continue work on remaining hot spots. The City of Gatlinburg said that stretch of the Parkway would remain closed until the demolition is complete. Those wishing to travel into or out of Great Smoky Mountains National Park while the Parkway is closed must use the Gatlinburg Bypass, the city said. Per reports, one body was found inside a burning structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
