Three people and two dogs were rescued from a boat fire on Little Harbor in Newcastle, N.H., on Saturday. The 2007 70-foot Marlow, Elusive, was heading toward Wentworth Marina when a passenger noticed black smoke below deck, the New Hampshire State Police said in a statement. The boat was quickly engulfed in flames and the three passengers and two family dogs jumped overboard. The boat drifted with the outgoing tide across the state line into Maine, police said. Video shows the boat being consumed by the fire, with a thick, black column of smoke rising from it. All three human passengers were rescued by nearby boats and transported to Portsmouth Hospital, where they were treated and released, police said. In an update, police confirmed the dogs were safe and doing well. Along with the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol, agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, Kittery Harbor Master, and several local fire departments tried to save the boat, which sank off Kittery, Maine, within about two hours of the initial 911 call. The cause of the fire is unknown, police said.
