An explosive fire at a propane business in Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday necessitated more than 100 firefighters from multiple agencies to extinguish the blaze, officials said.
Explosions were heard in the area of 40th and Washington streets in Phoenix Thursday afternoon, and the Phoenix Fire Department said it was called to the scene at around 4 p.m.
A video shared by Reed Deusterman shows flames shooting from large propane tanks, high into the air.
Multiple propane tanks exploded and sent projectile debris flying, per reports. Road closures were in effect around the site, fire officials said. Valley Metro temporarily limited train activity in the area of the fire.
Surrounding areas were evacuated, including the animals at the nearby Arizona Animal Welfare League. The shelter said Thursday that no animals were harmed, and advised the public to avoid coming to the shelter until the fire was extinguished.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
