Air Sirens in Kyiv

Air raid sirens rang out in Kyiv on Thursday, the day the leaders of France, Germany and Italy made a joint visit to the Ukrainian capital. Videos shared by Twitter user Mehmet Palabiyik show the air raid sirens in Kyiv on Thursday, and in the days leading up to the visit. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi took an overnight train together to Kyiv. The European leaders toured Irpin, a town near the capital that was hit early in Russia’s invasion, which began in February. The visit comes ahead of the European Union’s executive commission’s expected recommendation to allow Ukraine to join the bloc. Battles are now mainly fought in the east of the country, with Ukrainian forces in Sievierodonetsk on Wednesday refusing a Russian order to surrender. U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced $1 billion in new aid for Ukraine, including additional artillery and coastal defense weapons, as well as ammunition for the artillery and advanced rocket systems.
